my origin story
I wasn’t always a business owner. In fact, for many years, I was a corporate drone. As a kid, I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. There was a good reason for that: my dream job didn’t exist yet!
Although I didn’t know what I wanted to do, I knew what I liked, so I studied English and anthropology at The Ohio State University. During college, I started a beauty blog, which eventually grew into ColleenWelsch.com.
Prior to going rogue and starting my own business, I worked a number of jobs:
A now-defunct ad agency called Engauge, where I worked on projects for NASCAR, Nationwide Insurance, Chick-Fil-A, Woodford Reserve Bourbon, and Coca-Cola.
Justice (formerly Limited Too), where I specialized in product copywriting and was covered in glitter 24/7.
FAM Brands, where I was somehow in charge of content, merchandising, email marketing, and directing and styling photoshoots.
Toppik, where I wrote emails and blog posts.
At Toppik I realized that while beauty companies tend to recognize the importance of content, they often don’t have the bandwidth to write their own.
So, I decided to start Glossy Type to meet this need in the beauty industry.
Today, we serve big names in the beauty industry like Coty, P&G, and Milani. But we’re always on the lookout for new startups!
